RIP to Whitney Houston. Her life seems so similar to Billie Holiday. Both were one of the most influential of there genre in there era but plagued with Personal problems related to drug Abuse. They are so much alike! Whitney August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012 (aged 48) and Billie April 7, 1915- July 17, 1959 (aged 44)
Thats quite a bit of hype to declare one single specific year as the best ever but 1992 has a claim and heres the evidence backing that up! Its the transition year were R&B went into Hip Hop soul led by Mary J Blige, and Hip Hop went into G Funk led by Dr Dre and Snoop Dog and hard rock dropped Hair Metal and went full on grunge, and underground rock started to embrace Hip Hop grooves and stylistics like Faith No More! lets look back
#1: The Chronic – Dr Dre
(Released: Dec 15th, 1992)
If you want to get technical its real impact really start to hit in Spring of 1993 but it was released in the calendar year. It may not be the best ever hip hop record but its probably the most influential in the modern era. It proved there was life after NWA for Dr Dre, that the West Coast wasnt just a part of but would RULE the rap world in the early 90′s, and it launched Snoop Dog as a superstar in his own right. He was crediting with writing about 60% of the chronic. With Megahits like “Aint Nuttin But A G Thang” and “Dre Day” and “Let Me Ride” (which won a grammy) The Chronic is the definitive rap album that proved Gangsta Rap wasnt just an underground ghetto music but that Gangsta could go POP and rule the billboard charts without compromising or watering it down. The influences of this landmark record can still be heard to this day!
#2: Whats The 411 – Mary J Blige
(Released: July 28th, 1992)
Mixing Hip Hop and R&B wasnt new. There had been successful experiments as early as 1984 when Chaka Khan did a cover of the Prince b side I Feel For You and brought in sampling and rapper Melle Mel into the mix for a classic. Teddy Riley hit paydirt as well in the late 80′s with a mix of Hip Hop, Go Go Music and Gap Band tinged R&B to create New Jack Swing. But the 411 was mix of 70′s influenced soul on Raw Dusty New York breakbeats! Mary was the perfect artist for these soundscapes with her tortured painful lyrics and delivery. In the modern era were too much pop music is watered down and female singers are like sweet barbie dolls with passion Mary Took you back to the soul like a young Betty Wright or Aretha Franklin. There was and still is something geniune about her vocals.
#3: Ooh On The TLC Tip – TLC
(Released: February 25, 1992)
RIP To Left Eye!
Beyonce’ probably had one of the most controversial pregnancies in the history of America by doing nothing other than confirming she was pregnant on the VMA’s. For some reason out of thin air there were rumors circulating that she REALLY wasnt pregnant. Which proves just how stupid and silly people in masses can be. What they saw was music videos shot way in the past finally being released (like Love on Top) were she isnt pregnant and idiots thinking these videos are shot and released the same week they come out. So the idiots thought she aint pregnant in this “new video” but she claiming preggers now, it must be a publicity stunt (like B needs it seriously?) born Jan 9th, 2012. Blue Ivy Carter arrived on this planet. This birth has bring out the strangeness in people. Rapper 50 Cent posting photoshop images of a Jay Z ugly baby on his twitter, rumors that the kids name Blue Ivy Carter has some illumanti meaning, and of course “stans” praising the newborn like its the Messiah (it isnt get a life)
What we do know is the This kid is gonna live like a Queen at a royal level. You couldnt be born into a better situation. So the questions fly?
1. When will see pics of the baby and will People Magazine have to pay $1 million for the rights for first photography
2. Will the kid have Musical talent or not? Does it matter? We are going to get a Willow Smith moment guaranteed in 2022 no doubt.
3. Will the kid be well mannered or be a bad ass coke sniffing trouble maker like Bobbi Kristina Brown
4. Will the kid LOOK LIKE THE MAMMA AND NOT THE DADDY!
(you hate to say it but i know you are thinking it. what if the kid looks like??)

Proud papa Jay Z aka Shawn Carter will have EVERYTHING in the world. Fame, riches, a beautiful talented wife with her own empire too, but the only thing missing is a kid that WONT look like him. Pray for this kid and stay tuned and cross your fingers that it will look like B and not J!
What passes as rap got worse in 2011 with tunes like the retarded Super Bass with Nicki Menaj the God Awful Big Sean dominating urban radio waves. And No I dont want to hear anymore Drake and Weezy tracks. Ok now off my soap box and to present what i did like. It was the year were R&B started to make its comeback and doing it in a way were its not trying to be Raps step brother with its delivery but going back to more traditional sounds you wouldve expected to hear from New Edition, The Force MD’s, back in the day! And thats a good thing. In a plastic over synthesized world glad to see there is still quality product if you know were to look! Oh well off my soap box I sound like a cranky old man. Peep the list and have a happy 2012
#1: 4 Ever More – Anthony David Featuring Algebra
Not just one of my favs of this year but one of the best of this century IMHO. One of the few “You could get married to this song” type of tunes in recent memory. You usually have to go old school like Ribbon In The Sky by Stevie Wonder. These type of songs always get labeled “neo soul” and dont get on as many playlist as they should, and thats why the radio sucks due to lack of diversity. (There I go again with the crankiness. LOL) Mr David scored an instant classic that will liver forever! Round of Applause!
#2: Fool For You – Ceelo Green and Melanie Fiona
Fantastic duet R&B still lives if done right! Ceelo always brings and Melanie is underrated
#3: Rollin In The Deep – Adele
If this don’t move you then you have no pulse At just 23 She’s got a special gift. What is it? Pop, Soul, Folk. whatever you call it, she’s good. Leave it up the British to take American styles flip them and sell it back to us.
#4: Niggas In Paris – Jay Z & Kanye West
Ball So Hard. Very catchy. faster tempo than most modern rap songs weaves in British Dub Step, with that Woble, you can tell they hanging out in the UK a lot!
#5 : Love Letter – R. Kelly
Kels will never be the huge icon he was ever again but he still makes good tunes.
On this album he fused 50′s doo wop with 00′s Chicago stepping music. Its good!
#6 : Love On Top – Beyonce
B rides the trend of reviving classic R&B sound. The first verse choreography reminds of New Editon’s 1989 hit “If It Isn’t Love”. The octave changes to a higher key is very rare in modern R&B often only hear this on Gospel records.
Good tune! Bey!

#7 : Sure Thing – Miguel
This track sucks you in the first time you heard. Its really good considering his peers are making so much garbage he’s off to a good start. this went #1 on the r&b charts
#8 : So In Love – Jill Scott & Anthony Hamilton
Jill’s Light Of The Sun shocked everyone debuting at #1 on the pop Charts selling 125,000 the first week. Major accomplishment in an era when no one is selling! Man I really love some Jill Scott. I will have some of that
#9 : Novocaine – Frank Ocean
Frank weaves rapping and singing together in an unique way. Great use of metaphors and story telling! A better version of what Drake is trying to do!
#10 : Far Away – Marsha Ambrosius
I am NOT signing off on the pro-gay video but its a great song! (if you gay thats your thing it just aint mine) produced by Just Blaze and you just thought he was a hip hop dude.
#11: Rocketeer – Far East Movement w/ Ryan Tedder
Oh Oh Oh.. Once that hook gets in your head its stuck there the rest of the day. They held it down for the Asians to get represented on the American charts
Other Recieving Votes
That Way – Wale
Until Its Gone – Monica
Motivation – Kelly Rowland
Evrything Sucked in 2011. The Economy. The state of Hip hop Music. Celebrity behavior. The weather. I feel like the fucking Grinch that stole mother fucking Christmas. Hopefully 2012 is better. Good riddance to this odd ass year!
What Else Can You Do But Have a Laugh Because you know its so true!

Around 1999 when Napster first broke on the scene the music industry was arrogant, brash, and over inflated. In those days even 3rd rate rappers like N.O.R.E could move a platinum albums without blinking and the strength of just one hit (In his case the Hip Hop classic Superthug produced by little known duo at the time called the Neptunes). The music industry had full control, the Compact Disc was THE format. Vinyl and the cassette had been virtually eliminated as a choice and the economy was still rolling under Bill Clinton. But with Napster’s creation of peer to peer SHARING of MP3′s you could get free music over the internet, so why did you need to buy music the old fashioned way any more? I found out about it in 2000 and i only had Dial up at the time so it took me like 15 mins to download one song but i just hit DL and went and did something else and came back PRESTO a MP3 of the Next Episode by Dr Dre.
So what did the music industry do? Did they try to embrace the new technology as a way to reduce cost to the consumer and create there own network set up based on Napster’s idea and deliver high quality music and a better price and guarantee the downloads didn’t have virsuses? NOPE they tried to kill it! WIth lawsuits, threats and strong arm intimidation. It didn’t work the Genie was out of the bottle, people were used to getting free music online. Computers became cheaper so everyone had one, and the economy crashed ensuring people had less money to spend on music that they could find MP3′s of on the internet for free anyway. Fast forward to 2012 and stores that sold exclusively music are going out of business and stores that carried a big section of music like Best Buy an Wal-Mart have music aisles that keep shrinking virtually every month! In the late 90′s it was nothing that 25 different rap acts would have a platinum album today you will be lucky to find 4 that can do it! Eminem, Jay Z, Lil Wayne and T.I usually pull it off!
All of these factors add up to a collapsing industry. and it brings me to my point, why cant they just sell CD’s for $5. The profit margins would shrink but it would have people like myself actually buying MORE MUSIC. the last CD i bought was Maxwell’s Black Summers Night in 2009. THATS was 3 years ago. If music was $5 the music I would’ve bought in the last 2 years would’ve been Melanie Fiona, The New Jill Scott’s Light Of The Sun, British soul singer Adele 21, and Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers. I get 4 solid albums to listen to for $20 and the music industry gets 1/5 of a Franklin off me. But instead all these titles cost $13 a piece at Best Buy, so im paying $52 and i believe thats too much for it considering it probably cost them a dime in materials to package it. So why not take my $20 thats better than me giving you NONE! As a concession some labels have sold their catalog material for $5 as a start. I recently saw a RUN DMC greatest hits package with 12 of their best at Best Buy for just $4.99. Its a start but new HOT stuff still cost you a premium. The labels in cohorts with there minions in the record stores (the few still left) did price gouging, going UP on the cost of Whitney Houston products to capitalize on her death and going UP on the cost of Adele to profiteer on her big Grammy win. How classy!
And what about the artist?? The music industry isn’t paying the artist worth anything anyway (artist usually make 90% of there money performing or endorsing products if they have that type of juice) The record companies used there money to buy Private planes for there CEO’s and swank coked filled parties and building big shiny buildings! You’ve grifted consumers too long and now the consumers have struck back. You MUST deflate your products now or its GAME OVER!!

So the point is?? Lady Gaga and her handlers have tried to pass off her something as original and its not true. shes a rework of all the styles i mentioned above smashed into a rework for the digital age and selling it to young confused fans in a era. were everyone is experimenting with synthetic drugs, there sexuality (are they bi straight or gay) and mutli-racial (they dont know what they are what to claim) Lady Gaga calls all the misfits to the party and says you are ALL in invited lets have a good time and they love her.. BUT it aint original! heres who influenced her!
DAVID BOWIE (20%)

Doing his early 70′s Ziggy Stardust phase were he got very, very, very weird. He took on this persona of a space alien that comes to Earth to big a rock star and the fans Ate it up! at the same time he came out of the closet as OPENLY BI-SEXUAL!
MADONNA(20%)

model, dancer, singer extovert hanging out in the undeground NY club scene with a yearning to be FAMOUS. this is true of Gaga who made it but it sounds just like MADONNA in the late 70′s and early 80′s! Gaga has always denied the comparison that its very valid! especially during her pony tailed Cones on the breast phase like this

She doesnt sound like Janet but she moves like Janet from her 1990 Ryhtmn Nation era. Gaga Incorporates reworks of those moves into her Live act!!

Rita G was just another model until she got her big break appearing on the howard stern show. As you might at expect the conversation was low brow what Howard is known for. The topic was about her breast. There is no way they could be real? could they? They looked to perky and perfect to be natural. there had to be some silicone in there somewhere. They had her take a mammograph and it turned out to be true. Those puppies were real and Rita got a big boost in popularity and work popping up in the ethnic mags like King and Smooth and the Source and even crossing over to FHM, Maxim and Playboy appearances. Then the biggest jolt to her star rising was being chosen to be the femme fatale in Kanye’s Famous and weirdly strange Flashing Lights video were she murders Kanye after kissing him while hes tied up in the back of a trunk. peep the gifs and watch the video again!
